Occupational Therapy

Occupational therapists focus on a persons ‘occupations’ which are the activities we have to do or want to do everyday. In children these are play, school/ daycare and hobbies/ leisure activities. As well as self care skills such as toileting, dressing, eating and sleeping.

When working with children, OTs complete an assessment and look at your child’s development we then collaboratively set goals with the child/family and help your child reach these milestones.

Treatment sessions are very hands on and play based. Parents are always welcome to join us, but you are also welcome to take a much needed break. The sessions usually include: some movement and sensory activities, trying some sensory and coping strategies, table-based activities to work on goals such as improving printing/ fine motor skills, picky eating, emotion regulation, etc. Your child’s unique interests and preferences are always incorporated into the session.
